Event Spotlights work as visual filters.
When users click on them, search results are automatically narrowed down based on the products linked to the spotlight.
They are designed to highlight:
- commercial events (e.g. Sales, Black Friday),
- calendar events (e.g. Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day),
- or any custom event relevant to your website.
Their display style and position are slightly different from Branded Spotlights, but the configuration logic remains very similar.
The key difference is that Event Spotlights can be scheduled with precise start and end dates.
Configuration steps
To create an Event Spotlight, you need to configure the following elements:
- Name (internal use only)
- Front‑end label (may be visible to your customers)
- Background image URL or Background Hexadecimal color
- Logo image URL (optional)
- Description (optional)
- Product selection, defined either:
- dynamically via a product attribute, or
- statically using a selection created previously in Select
- Validity dates:
- start date and time,
- end date and time
⚠️ Note:
The display position of Event Spotlights in the search layer may vary between Sensefuel Max and Sensefuel Ignition.
Tailoring the display of Event Spotlights
You can adapt how Event Spotlights appear in search results:
- Choose different display behaviors for desktop and mobile
- Optionally hide the title and/or hide the description, if one is defined
This allows you to adapt the visual impact depending on device constraints and design preferences.
Spotlight auto‑application
What is auto‑application?
Auto‑application occurs when:
- only one Event Spotlight matches a user’s search,
- and 100% of the products in the search results belong to that spotlight.
In this case, the spotlight is automatically applied in Sensefuel search Layer without requiring a manual click.
Advanced settings — Keywords
Advanced settings allow you to associate keywords with an Event Spotlight.
⚠️ Be very careful when using keywords:
- The keyword will be associated with all products selected by your rule
- Typing this keyword in search will retrieve all products linked to the spotlight
❌ Do not add keywords that already exist in product data, as this can negatively impact relevance.
✅ Valid use case example:
- Black Friday
No product is named “Black Friday”, but if a user searches for this keyword, you may want:- to display the Black Friday Event Spotlight,
- and return all products associated with this campaign.
